rssWant your news on demand? Are you always looking for the latest news on web sites such as CNN, MSN, and Yahoo?

Well the next greatest way to receive news is through “not-so-new” technology called “RSS.”  RSS is a format for syndicating news and content like personal web logs to be delivered as webfeeds, RSS stream, and RSS channel.

You often see that orange icon everywhere on news and classified sites and when you click on them, they display an xml page that has weird characters on it. Well, you just explored the world of RSS feeds. This all has originated from push and pull technology. Two of the earliest examples are Backweb and Pointcast.

An RSS feed can be aggregated though programs for your desktop that feeds the latest articles without visiting the site. If you haven’t explored RSS yet, you will hear more about it in the near future. There are many articles about RSS and many aggregators that are offered for free. I am personally surprised on how many people are not familiar with the technology and didn’t explore it yet. Try a search on RSS and see how many sites have already fostered that technology.
